Two of North Devon’s finest artists are brought together by White Moose, North Devon, this month in a very special selling exhibition leading up to Christmas.
The exhibition The Art of Giving features existing and specially created work by leading UK wood engraver and past President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers Hilary Paynter and one of the most popular self-taught potters in the region Kevin Green.
As part of the exhibition Bideford based Hilary Paynter – who has just completed a series of illustrations for the publication of “In Memory of Water” by poet Simon Armitage – will also be showing some of her printing woodblocks and will be working in the gallery to demonstrate the technical intricacies of wood engraving to visitors. These free drop in sessions will take place at White Moose on Saturday 30th November and Wednesday 18th December from 11am to 4pm.
Kevin Green has created 500 new individually thrown pots for this exhibition, which will make highly unique and affordable gifts for visitors in the run up to and over the Christmas period. White Moose will be hosting a conversation with Kevin Green about his practice on Tuesday 10 December from 7 to 9pm. In addition, he will also be present at the gallery to talk to visitors on Thursday 5 December, Saturday 14 December and Friday 20 December from 11am to 2pm.
Prior to the exhibition, Hilary Paynter will give a more formal talk at Broomhill Art Hotel on Wednesday 13th November at 7.15pm, as part of monthly North Devon Arts events at the venue. The talk will focus on her practice and the different aspects of her work, from more humorous pieces to works that touch on socio-political issues such as urban expansion and the isolation of the individual.
